Goa plans ordinance to regularise illegal houses

Panaji, May 10 (IANS) With an eye to the state assembly elections slated for early next year, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government would bring an ordinance to regularise nearly 40,000 illegal houses in the state.

"The ordinance will be issued when the assembly meets during the monsoon session in July," Parsekar told reporters at the State Secretariat.

A law regularising nearly 40,000 illegally constructed houses in the state was one of the poll promises made by the BJP ahead of the 2012 state assembly polls.

According to Parsekar, the cut-off period for illegal structures to qualify for the regularisation will be February 2014.

"We are fulfilling our poll promise with this ordinance," the chief minister said.
