Tokyo shares open higher

Tokyo, May 9 (IANS) Tokyo shares opened trading on Monday higher on bargain hunting after the Nikkei index dropped roughly 1,400 points over the past six trading days.

At 9.15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 173.70 points, or 1.08 percent, higher from Friday to 16,280.42, Xinhua news agency reported.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 13.98 points, or 1.08 percent, to 1,312.30.
