Rains continue in Telangana, marked fall in temperatures

Hyderabad, May 7 (IANS) Rains continued in parts of Telangana on Saturday, bringing down the temperatures.

Heavy rains lashed some parts of Hyderabad and its suburbs in the evening, inundating roads and leading to traffic jams.

For a second consecutive day, the city witnessed a downpour. Shamshabad on the outskirts, where the international airport is located, experienced heavy rainfall. Similar was the situation in many areas of Secunderabad, the twin city of Hyderabad.

 

The met office said rains under the impact of upper air trough brought down temperature by five to eight degrees. The highest temperature of 39.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Hanamkonda. In almost all districts, the maximum temperature was below 35 degrees. In Hyderabad it was 32.2, the lowest in the state.

The city received eight cm rainfall early Friday. It was the highest rainfall for May in last 10 years.

According to Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, the upper air trough now runs from Vidarbha to Comorin areas across Telangana.

It forecast light to moderate rains/thundershowers in most parts of the state over next five days. It also issued a warning that thunderstorm accompanied with squall/hail are likely to occur at isolated places. It made a similar forecast for neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

The rains over last few days have provided much needed relief to people from heat wave, which claimed 249 lives so far this season in Telangana.

Meanwhile, in Andhra Pradesh rain occurred at isolated places in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. The highest temperature of 40.7 degrees Celsius was recorded in Kurnool.
