Turnout in Bengal polls final phase close to 87 percent

Kolkata, May 6 (IANS) The voter turnout in the sixth and last phase of West Bengal assembly polls on Thursday was 86.76 percent, the Election Commission said here on Friday.

The elections in the phase covered 25 constituencies - 16 in East Midnapore and nine in Cooch Behar districts - with a total eligible electorate of 58,04,019.

The average turnout in East Midnapore was 87.17 percent, and in Cooch Behar 86.05 percent.

The highest polling percentage of 90.09 was recorded in Haldia constituency of East Midnapore district.

Dinhata constituency in Cooch Behar registered 81.49 percent votes, the lowest in the phase.

The polling figure in Nandigram of East Midnapore was 87.14 percent.
