Thousands take holy dip on Amavasya in Kshipra at Ujjain

Ujjain , May 6 (IANS) Thousands of people took the holy dip at various banks of Kshipra river here on the occasion of Amavasya (new moon) during the ongoing Simhasth Kumbh. The heavy dust-storms and downpour of a day ago clearly failed to dampen their spirit.

About 700 tents and temporary shelters created by the devotees and pilgrims were uprooted in the heavy storm and downpour that lashed the Kumbh city a day ago.

Seven people were killed and over 100 injured, some of them seriously. The nature's fury left damaged rows of tents and shelters, inundated the roads and turned the river waters muddy and turgid.

Though the arrangements were pushed into disarray, causing hardships, thousands of devouts and pilgrims undertook the Panchkroshi Yatra, and reached the Kshipra's banks for a holy dip.
