Chandigarh, May 6 (IANS) With parts of neighbouring hill states Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand getting rain in the past 72 hours, Haryana and Punjab continued to get relief from heat wave conditions on Friday with maximum temperatures at most places below 39 degrees Celsius.
Even though temperatures were a notch higher than Thursday, people got the much-needed relief from the heat wave that has gripped the region till Monday when maximum temperatures were between 42 and 46 degrees.
Chandigarh recorded a high of 36.6 degrees while Hisar in Haryana, which recorded 45.5 degrees on Monday, recorded 38.4 degrees.
Ambala and Karnal towns in Haryana recorded highs of 36.4 and 36 degrees respectively.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a maximum temperature of 36.1 degrees, followed by Ludhiana and Patiala at 36.4 and 37.1 degrees respectively.
Met officials predicted cloudy conditions in some parts of the region over the weekend.
