Rain brings relief from scorching sun in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 6 (IANS) Rains in several parts of Odisha on Friday brought relief for people reeling under scorching sun since last couple of days, with the number of places recording temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius dipping to seven.

The highest temperature of 42 degrees Celsius recorded at Talcher while both Bhubaneswar and Angul recording 41.7 degrees, said a met department bulletin.

Even as some parts of the state experienced heat wave till noon, rainfall under impact of thunderstorms brought cheer for the people.

 

Meanwhile, the state government confirmed death of 16 people due to sunstroke. An official of special relief commissioner's office said that it has received reports of 166 deaths due to sunstroke. Inquiry into 84 of the cases have completed so far and has found while 16 died due to sunstroke, 68 deaths occurred due to some other reasons, he added.
