Telangana urges centre to help migrants in Saudi firm

Hyderabad, May 3 (IANS) The Telangana government has requested the central government to come to the rescue of migrant workers from the state working in Saudi Arabia with the Bin Laden Group of companies where large-scale retrenchments have been made.

NRI Affairs Minister K. T. Rama Rao has written a letter to external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, seeking her intervention in the matter, as the company retrenched 50,000 employees during last two to three months and cancelled their visas as it is not getting new contracts.

He pointed out that most of the removed workers are from India and of them majority is from Telangana.

Rama Rao, who is son of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, further wrote that the employees are not even in a position to come back to India as they have become illegal migrants because of cancellation of their visas. The minister said the families of these workers were worried about their safety.

The state minister also brought to the notice of Sushma Swaraj that some of the workers in the company were not paid salaries because of which they were facing financial hardships.
