New Delhi, May 3 (IANS) The Delhi government on Tuesday in a notification directed all schools of the city to observe mandatory summer vacation from May 11 in the wake of sweltering heat.
"The Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued a circular to all the heads of schools (government, aided, private unaided and school run by civic bodies) to observe mandatory summer vacation from May 11," the education department said in a statement.
"The decision was taken looking at the very hot weather prevailing in Delhi and prediction that temperature is likely to rise further," it added.
The mercury is constantly rising in Delhi and Monday was the hottest day of the season at 44 degrees Celsius.
