Heat wave conditions hit life in Rajasthan

Jaipur, May 2 (IANS) Intense heat conditions continued to make life miserable on Monday for people in Rajasthan, with the mercury hovering between 40 to 45 degrees Celsius across the desert state.

Rise in day temperatures has started to affect road traffic and marketplaces have started to wear a deserted look mainly during afternoons. Even the evenings have not been pleasant for quite some time.

Churu at 45.5 degrees Celsius was five degrees above the season's normal and the hottest place in the state. Sri Ganganagar was also hot at 44.2 degrees.

State capital Jaipur was scorching at 43.1 degrees, three degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature was 29.5 degrees, almost five degrees above normal.

Ajmer was hot at 41.2 degrees, while the maximum temperatures at Bikaner and Barmer were 43.2 degrees and 42.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Udaipur, the city of lakes, was also in the grip of a heat wave, as the maximum temperature touched 40 degrees.

"Dust-storms or thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in west Rajasthan and the weather is likely to be dry in east Rajasthan," a meteorological department official told IANS.
