Amsterdam, May 2 (IANS) With only one match round to go, the Dutch football title race remains a neck-and-neck affair between Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, with the former still in pole-position after both teams won their latest matches.
Ajax and PSV were equal on points after 32 rounds, but Ajax were on top with a better goal difference on Sunday, reports Xinhua.
The mission for PSV was to produce as much goals as possible against bottom side SC Cambuur in their home ground. They won 6-2. Ajax defeated FC Twente 4-0.
With a goal by Marco van Ginkel in the 15th minute, reigning champions PSV started well, but were pegged back by an equaliser from Calvin Mac-Intosch. Luuk de Jong headed PSV in front again.
Gaston Pereiro answered with a goal for PSV. Cambuur made it 3-2 through Jack Byrne in the 43rd minute.
Ajax lead 3-2 at half-time. In the second half, Maher scored PSV's fourth goal. Free-kicks by Jetro Willems and Marco van Ginkel made it a comprehensive 6-2 win but it was not enough to give them the top spot.
Meanwhile in Amsterdam, Vaclav Cerny gave Ajax the lead in the 37th minute after finishing a pass from Joel Veltman. They then enjoyed a productive final quarter to round off the scoreline with goals from Mike van der Hoorn, Viktor Fischer and Amin Younes.
Ajax lead with 81 points and the goal difference margin with of +6 more than PSV.
