Dutch football title race still too close to call

Amsterdam, May 2 (IANS) With only one match round to go, the Dutch football title race remains a neck-and-neck affair between Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, with the former still in pole-position after both teams won their latest matches.

Ajax and PSV were equal on points after 32 rounds, but Ajax were on top with a better goal difference on Sunday, reports Xinhua.

The mission for PSV was to produce as much goals as possible against bottom side SC Cambuur in their home ground. They won 6-2. Ajax defeated FC Twente 4-0.

With a goal by Marco van Ginkel in the 15th minute, reigning champions PSV started well, but were pegged back by an equaliser from Calvin Mac-Intosch. Luuk de Jong headed PSV in front again.

Gaston Pereiro answered with a goal for PSV. Cambuur made it 3-2 through Jack Byrne in the 43rd minute.

Ajax lead 3-2 at half-time. In the second half, Maher scored PSV's fourth goal. Free-kicks by Jetro Willems and Marco van Ginkel made it a comprehensive 6-2 win but it was not enough to give them the top spot.

Meanwhile in Amsterdam, Vaclav Cerny gave Ajax the lead in the 37th minute after finishing a pass from Joel Veltman. They then enjoyed a productive final quarter to round off the scoreline with goals from Mike van der Hoorn, Viktor Fischer and Amin Younes.
