Los Angeles, May 1 (IANS) Actress Sela Ward, who plays the role of a US president tasked with saving mankind after an alien invasion in “Independence Day: Resurgence”, says she studied Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton while preparing for her character in the upcoming science fiction disaster film.

Asked whether she modelled President Landford (her character in the film) on any real-life presidents, Ward told variety.com: “Well, we don’t have any female presidents to emulate. But I watched a lot of Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail, just to see physically what she would do, how she would approach a podium, a crowd, etc.

“(Germany’s) Angela Merkel, I would look at a little bit. She’s not as expressive. It’s really mostly watching Hillary, who is the only real female role model we have," she added.

Ward said she also heard Hillary Clinton's speech at the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday.

“I was listening to the cadence of her speeches. That informed me a lot. I was watching physically what she would do,” Ward said.

“Independence Day: Resurgence”, directed by Roland Emmerich, is slated to release on June 24.
