Two sentenced over violent scuffles with police in Paris

Paris, May 2 (IANS) Two young people were sentenced to six and eight months respectively in prison for violent acts against police in Thursday's mass protests against labour reform, according to local reports.

The two defendants aged 22 and 30 years were convicted on Saturday of "violence against a public agent," Xinhua quoted the daily Le Figaro as saying.

Five others will appear before the court on Monday, it added.

During violent demonstrations against labour code reform, scores of young people were arrested on Thursday in Paris. Seven policemen were injured with one in serious situation in the clashes.

According to the French Interior Ministry, police arrested 124 protesters during the fourth day of demonstrations by trade unions against the draft bill in about two months.
