Teenage horse rider dies at equestrian meet

Sydney, May 1 (IANS) Teenaged Australian horse rider Caitlyn Fischer died after falling off her horse during the Sydney International Horse Trials competition for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

The tragic incident took place on Saturday in front of 19-year-old Fischer's mother when she fell as she was attempting to jump over a 1.1 metre high fence, reports Efe.

Medics rushed to help Fischer but she could not be revived, according to Equestrian Australia (EA).

EA chairwoman Judy Fasher sent her condolences to Fischer's family following the incident, which Fasher described as "horrendous", adding that Fischer was a "young and experienced rider".
