Istanbul, May 1 (IANS) At least one person was killed when anti-riot police fired tear gas and used water cannons during May Day parade on Sunday in Istanbul.
The Turkish police said that several hundred protestors were trying to get to Istanbul's main square where May Day celebrations have been banned.
The security measures come after a series of attacks blamed on both the Islamic State group and militants of the Kurdistan Workers Party.
May Day in Turkey marks a bloody violence on May 1, 1977, during which unidentified gunmen opened fire on a peaceful crowd, killing dozens of people in Taksim Square.
