Indian, Chinese armies agree to maintain peace

Jammu, May 1 (IANS) The Indian and Chinese armies on Sunday agreed to maintain peace on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region.

A spokesman for the army's Udhampur-headquartered Northern Command told IANS that the two armies held Border Personnel Meetings with their senior commanders as part of efforts to build cordial ties.

"Both the armies agreed to uphold the treaties and agreements signed between the governments to maintain peace and tranquillity along the LAC," the spokesman said.

 

The two meetings took place at Moldo and TWD garrison in eastern Ladakh.

"The delegations parted amidst a feeling of friendship and commitment towards enhancing the existing cordial relations and maintaining peace on the LAC," the spokesman said.

At Moldo, the Indian delegation was led by Major General Sudhakar Jee and the Chinese delegation by Colonel Zhan Peng Zhung.

At TWD, Lt. Col. R.C. Barthwal and Colonel Song Zhan Li led the Indian and Chinese delegations, respectively.
