Temperatures high in Himachal, rain in store

Shimla, April 30 (IANS) The hills of Himachal Pradesh again saw the mercury rising on Saturday, recording temperatures three to five degrees above the average. But the Met office forecast rains and thundershowers next week.

"A fresh western disturbance is likely to be active in the region on May 2, with chances of rain in mid-hills and snow in higher reaches till May 4," an official of the meteorological office here told IANS.

Meanwhile, the hill state continued to experience hot weather with the day temperature crossing the 40 degrees Celsius mark in some areas.

Una town was the hottest in the state with a high of 40.4 degrees Celsius.

Sundernagar in Mandi district recorded a maximum temperature of 36.4 degrees Celsius while Dharamsala in Kangra district was hot at 30.2 degrees.

Shimla was hot at 26.7 degrees Celsius, 4.1 notches above average.

Popular tourist resorts like Narkanda, Kufri, Kasauli, Manali, Palampur, Chamba and Dalhousie also experienced hot weather.

However, the nights are chilly at some tourist destinations.

Manali and Kalpa towns recorded a low of 5.8 degrees Celsius, while the state capital recorded the minimum temperature at 14.8 degrees.
