Central forces terrorising people: Trinamool

Kolkata, April 30 (IANS) Accusing that the central security forces of "terrorising" the people, West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress, after the fifth phase of the assembly polls on Saturday, asserted it had achieved a safe majority to form the government. AA

"We have seen many elections, but during this polls, we have seen the central security forces terrorising the common people in some areas. In some other places, they have gone beyond their mandate," said Trinamool vice president Mukul Roy.

Addressing the media after the fifth phase of the polls involving 53 constituencies spread across South 24 Parganas, Hooghly and South Kolkata, Roy, without taking names, pointed fingers at the centre's ruling BJP.

"I am compelled to say this, that somehow or the other, those who have come here (central forces), have been briefed by someone," he said.

The Trinamool including party supremo and chief minister Mamata Banerjee has been attacking the Election Commission for using the central forces to "terrorise the common people".

Roy exuded confidence of the Trinamool coming to power again and claimed the wind was out of the opposition's sails.

"We have already said the Trinamool has got absolute majority. Despite all the terror and the attempts to conduct the polls in a way not conducive to the festival of democracy, what stands out is that the people have overcome all that. We had formed the government earlier and now we have reached a very safe position.

"The tendency of not allowing the common man is unacceptable, and the opposition is apprehensive that they will lose if people are allowed to vote," added Roy
