Los Angeles, April 29 (IANS) At least 20 people were arrested after protests erupted in California following a campaign rally for US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

"Post Trump rally protest is over. Approx 20 arrests by Costa Mesa PD. No major injuries. Crowd dispersed by 11 p.m. (local time)," the Orange county Sheriff's Department said on Friday.

Riots broke out among anti-Trump protestors at the Orange County Fair and Event Center just minutes after the controversial tycoon delivered a campaign speech, Efe news reported.

Protestors blocked some of the surrounding streets, damaged police cars and threw stones and other debris at police officers and their vehicles, according to the media.

"I'm protesting because I want equal rights for everybody, and I want peaceful protest," 19-year-old Daniel Lujan said.

He was one of hundreds of people gathered in the streets to protest against Trump, mostly Latinos in their late teens and early 20s.

Orange county police and Costa Mesa district officers finally brought the crowd under control and dispersed the demonstrators.

The participants explained that their protests were directed against Trump's xenophobic messages during his election campaign.
