Cabinet approves solar plant in National Seeds Corporation land

New Delhi, April 27 (IANS) The union cabinet on Wednesday approved utilising 400 hectares of uncultivable farm land at Jetsar in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district for setting up a solar power plant of capacity exceeding 200 MW.

"The land is presently in possession of National Seeds Corporation (NSC), a central public sector enterprise (CPSE) under the administrative control of the ministry of agriculture and farmers welfare. The solar power plant will be set up by a CPSE, which would be selected through negotiation," said a cabinet communique.

The CPSE will bear installation costs of the solar power plant and has to do a tariff based competitive bidding for the project.

 

The CPSE will utilise the land for a period of 25 years which may extend on mutually agreed terms while the entire plant will be surrendered to NSC on as is basis after completing the land use agreement, the statement added.
