Washington, April 26 (IANS) US Secretary of State John Kerry hopes to visit Nepal by the end of 2016.
He stated this to visiting Nepali Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa on Monday, Xinhua news agency cited a statement issued by the Nepal embassy here as saying.
Thapa, who is also in-charge of foreign affairs, briefed Kerry about the political situation in Nepal, including the new constitution.
He also told Kerry about the reconstruction work undertaken after the April 2015 devastating earthquake in Nepal.
Thapa appreciated the US for its continued financial and economic support to the country and hoped this would increase in the future.
Kerry congratulated the government of Nepal on the promulgation of the constitution.
He also appreciated Nepal's role in maintaining international peace by contributing to UN peacekeepers.
