Kolkata, April 26 (IANS) The Election Commission on Tuesday asserted central forces which are on deployment for the ongoing assembly polls in West Bengal have never exceeded their brief.
"They have never exceeded their brief," additional chief electoral officer Dibyendu Sarkar said to a query on state Labour Minister Purnendu Bose's angry reaction after central forces checked his credentials during the fourth phase of polling on Monday.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had attacked the poll watchdog, saying voters were being tortured in the name of central forces.
