New Delhi, April 25 (IANS) The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 p.m., minutes after it convened, when the opposition started raising slogans and trooped to the chairman's podium demanding a discussion on the Uttarakhand crisis.
The session started on a stormy note after Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad demanded a discussion on President's Rule being imposed in Uttarakhand.
"We as the oppositon want the house to function and legislation passed. But in the recent past, we have seen how an atmosphere was created to stall the proceedings of the house. For the first time in the history of Indian politics, President's Rule was imposed in Uttarakhand without following any rules and regulation. We demand a discussion on this issue," said Azad.
To this Leader of House Arun Jaitley said the issue could be discussed only when the proclamation on President's Rule is presented in the house.
"The issue can be discussed when the proclamation comes up for discussion. It cannot be discussed at a pre-proclamation stage," said Jaitley.
Following this the opposition members trooped to the chairman's podium while raising slogans.
The uproar led to adjournment of the House until 2 in the afternoon.
