Weather to improve in Jammu & Kashmir Sunday onwards

Srinagar, April 23 (IANS) Weather will improve across Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday onwards as light rains were forecast by Met office on Saturday.

"There would be overall improvement in weather across the state from tomorrow (Sunday) onwards," an official of the Met department told IANS.

"During the next 12 hours, we are expecting light rains at isolated places in the state," the official said.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 5.4 degrees Celsius in Srinagar on Saturday, four degrees less than the season's average temperature, the official said.

In Jammu the minimum temperature was recorded at 18.5 degrees Celsius, three degrees below the average temperature of the season.

"The minimum temperature was minus 0.5 in Gulmarg and 0.6 in Pahalgam today (Saturday)."

"In the Jammu region, Katra town recorded 15.8, Batote 7.5 degrees Celsius, Bannihal five degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah recorded 4.2 degrees Celsius as the day's minimum temperatures," the Met department official said.

There was hailstorm in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Friday evening.

Apple trees those are in bloom these days have suffered extensive damage because of Friday's hailstorm, reports said.
