Rain, snow in Himachal as heat wave hits other states

Shimla, April 23 (IANS) At a time when many states in India are reeling under a severe heat wave, some high-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh are witnessing teeth-chattering cold.

Most of the hill destinations in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday received moderate rainfall, while Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti district saw snow, bringing down the minimum temperature to minus 3.1 degrees Celsius.

A weather official told IANS the western disturbances would be active with chances of rain and snow in the state till Sunday.

 

The state capital, which saw 6.4 mm rain, recorded a minimum temperature of 9.6 degrees, while the temperature was 1.3 degrees in Kalpa in Kinnaur district, 13.8 degrees in Dharamsala and 9.3 degrees in Dalhousie.

Shimla's maximum temperature on Saturday was 21.6 degrees Celsius.

Manali, which recorded 2.8 mm rain, saw a low of 4 degrees Celsius.

Gohar in Mandi district recorded the state's highest rainfall at 30 mm.

High-altitude areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu and Kinnaur districts also experienced snow, the official added.

Severe heat wave conditions has badly affected lives in many states.

Many places in Telangana are sizzling with maximum temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius, while several parts of Odisha including state capital Bhubaneswar have also registered temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.

In West Bengal, a severe heat wave will hit three districts in the next four days, when temperatures will hover near 45 degrees Celsius, while state capital Kolkata will experience sultry conditions, weather officials said on Saturday.
