Rio de Janeiro, April 23 (IANS) Indian shooters enjoyed a positive day at the lnternational Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun) with Sheeraz Shaikh and Mairaj Ahmed Khan (men's Skeet) and Gurpreet Singh (men's Rapid Fire Pistol) getting off to good starts in their respective events at the Olympic Shooting Centre here.
Sheeraz Sheikh began his first round of qualification on the eighth day of the tournament with a perfect score of 25 to be on top of the standings. Mairaj Ahmed Khan was lying 22nd having shot two rounds of 24 and 22 each. Man Singh, the Indian in men's Skeet, was in the 46th place.
In men's Rapid Fire Pistol, Gurpreet shot 289 to finish the first round of the qualification stage in the 14th place. He started strongly with scores of 99 and 98 in the first two relays of 10 shots. He then registered a 92 in the third relay to slide down a little in the leader board.
Earlier on the seventh day of the competition, 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist Gagan Narang and Chain Singh shot 615.5 and 617.1 in the qualification round of the men's 50m Prone event to end 45th and 48th respectively.
