Paris, April 22 (IANS) Singer Mariah Carey honoured late musician Prince, who died at the age of 57, by dedicating a song to him when she took the stage here at a concert.

Carey also asked for a moment of silence during the show at the AccorHotels Arena, which took place just hours after news about Prince's death broke, reports aceshowbiz.com. The legendary musician died on Thursday.

"So, it's a very sad day but we remember the life of somebody who will always be treasured," Carey said of Prince in front of the crowd before performing "One sweet day".

"He was a friend to me too and he talked me through some times I really, really needed somebody. He was an incredible person if you never got to meet him," she told the crowd.

"I'm sure his music has touched every single person in here so let's have a moment of silence for Prince."

Upon learning of the iconic singer's death, Carey took to Twitter to post a photograph of her and the "Purple rain" hitmaker posing next to each other.

"Genius, legend, inspiration, friend. The world will miss you. I'll never get over it," she wrote alongside the image.
