New Delhi, April 22 (IANS) The Indian Army chief, General Dalbir Singh, on Friday reviewed Exercise Shatrujeet in the desserts of Rajasthan, an official statement said.

The army chief was received by Lieutenant General Sarath Chand, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Sapta Shakti Command, at the exercise location and briefed on the operational plans and exercise conduct by Lieutenant General Shokin Chauhan, General Officer Commanding of 1 Strike Corps.

The Mathura-based Strike Corps' exercise is aimed at evaluating the army's capability to strike deep in the enemy territory in an integrated air-land battle environment.

The exercise is a part of regular training wherein corps is practicing and honing war skills.

One airborne brigade will on Friday night be "dropped" behind simulated enemy lines as part of the exercise.

Composite infantry and mechanised columns of the Strike Corps will also manoeuvre deep into enemy territory and link up with the airborne force.

Networked radars, unmanned aerial vehicles and aerial surveillance platforms will ensure continuous flow of information to enable commanders to assess and suitably modify their operational plans to meet the emerging challenges and exploit fleeting opportunities.

Mobile communication systems integrated with terrestrial network will provide efficient communication on the move across the battlefield.

During his visit, the army chief reviewed the complex and integrated operational manoeuvres of the formation.

Synergy between the army and Indian Air Force in executing air-land battle and the ability to orchestrate the battle in network-centric environment were also successfully validated in the course of the exercise.
