Islamabad, April 22 (IANS) Thirteen people died after eating poisonous sweets in Pakistan's Punjab province, the media reported on Friday.
Umar Hayat, a resident of Layyah district located in Punjab province, distributed sweets among his relatives on the birth of his grandson on Thursday, Dunya News reported.
All the relatives fell sick and were shifted to hospital where the doctors said that the sweets had some toxic content, Xinhua news agency reported.
Police raided the sweetmeat shop and arrested the confectioner and sent the samples of the sweets to the laboratory.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed grief over the deaths and ordered a probe into the incident.
