New Delhi, April 21 (IANS) West Bengal on Thursday recorded a turnout of 79.22 percent till 5 p.m. amid a few untoward incidents during the third phase of the assembly elections, an Election Commission official said here.
At a press conference here, Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena said an FIR was registered against two Trinamool Congress leaders, Abdul Mannan Hossain and Anwar Khan, for violating the model code of conduct.
Khan, who had reportedly abused the Election Commission, was later arrested, he said.
The third phase of polling involved 62 seats.
He said the EC has set up a special control room to monitor the remaining phases of the assembly election.
Saxena said 80,000 personnel of the central armed police forces were deployed to ensure free and fair election in the third phase.
