Cabinet nod for research institute in Andhra Pradesh

New Delhi, April 20 (IANS) The union cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod for the new Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh to be set up at a cost of Rs.137.30 crore.

The institute was mandated to commence its academic activities from a transit/temporary campus at Sree Rama Engineering College, Tirupati, from 2015 to 2018.

The decision on IISER was taken as an institute of national importance was considered necessary in Andhra Pradesh after Telengana was carved out in 2014.

The Andhra Pradesh government earmarked 244 acres of land at Srinivasapuram, Pangur and Chindepalli villages for the construction of the permanent IISER campus at Tirupati.

It was later decided to commence IISER functioning from the 2015-16 academic session from its temporary campus at Sree Rama Engineering College.
