Vienna, April 19 (IANS) A 250-kg aerial bomb from World War II was discovered during construction work in Vienna, Austria, on Monday morning.
Workers on a housing project in the district of Doebling discovered the bomb which was buried at a depth of about 2.5 metres, Xinhua reported.
As the bomb was close to train tracks, train services passing through the area had to come to a standstill. A cordon of 300 to 400 metres around the site was established as bomb disposal experts were called in.
It was initially believed that the bomb, apparently of US origin, would have to be detonated on site, but the disposal team was able to secure the bomb at last and transport it safely away.
The cordon around the site was lifted then and all transport services resumed.
