Taskin's dream about to come true at Abahani

Dhaka, April 17 (IANS) Bangladesh speedster Taskin Ahmed is looking forward to playing for Abahani in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.

The young pacer, who was suspended from playing international cricket for his illegal bowling action, is poised to play in one of the renowned and historic club of the country, reports bdnews24.com.

"I will try to give my best and do something memorable. Dhaka Premier League is the biggest league in Bangladesh. Everyone here aims to do something big," Taskin said on Saturday.

Although banned from internationals, Taskin is free to participate in domestic cricket with consent of the board - which was not really hard for him to manage.

"I had been hearing about Abahani and Mohammedan since I was a kid. But I never got to play for Abahani. You can say the opportunity to play for Abahani is a dream come true. My father, too, wanted me to play for Abahani this time."

Former Bangladesh cricketer Khaled Mahmud Sujon will coach Abahani now as it goes into the DPL set to start from Apr 22.

Taskin is delighted to have the all-rounder as his mentor.

"Playing in Sujon sir's team feels like playing under a close guardian. He had picked me to play (for Chittagong Kings) in the semi-finals of the BPL, which was a turning point of my career."

Taskin had been under the guidance of Mahmud since his Under-15 days.

"He knows how to discipline me and get the best. I always want to play in his team."

Taskin, whose ban was effective since Bangladesh's first Super 10 match during the World Twenty20 last month, started working on remodelling his action as soon as he got back from India.

He spent some time away from the fields by taking a trip to Sri Lanka and the Maldives a few days back. But he resumed his work after the vacation.

"I have to go take the test again…But I'm not too worried about that. Because my bowling action will undergo no major change. I am following the plans BCB gave me."

"Those in Abahani are giving me great support. My target now is playing for the Premier League, after that I'll think about the assessment…I will go and take the test when BCB gives me the word," he concluded.
