Dhaka, April 17 (IANS) Bangladesh Nationalist Party chief Khaleda Zia on Sunday appeared before a Dhaka court to attend hearings of corruption cases against her.
Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kajal told bdnews24 that the Third Special Judges Court in Dhaka would record the statement of the former prime minister after the depositions of state witnesses were read out to her in the Zia Charitable Trust case.
Khaleda skipped the previous hearing on April 7 to defend herself after the court accepted her petition for more time.
In 2010, the BNP chief and three others were prosecuted for embezzling 31.5 million Bangladeshi taka ($402,226) of the Zia Charitable Trust.
Khaleda will also attend a hearing in the Orphanage Trust case, in which she stands accused of embezzling 21 million Bangladeshi taka from funds meant for the trust, which reportedly came from a foreign bank.
