Water conservation system to be in place this monsoon: Goa CM

Panaji, April 16 (IANS) With several districts of neighbouring Maharashtra reeling under drought, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Saturday rued his state lacks a proper water conservation system but assured his government would put one in place during these monsoons.

"Unfortunately in Goa we have no system in place to conserve water. We have to re-look the practice of using gutters to allow excess water to run off," he told reporters here.

Parsekar had earlier said that apart from one sub district, Bardez in north Goa, where water availability was acute and had to be catered to by diverting water from a nearby dam, there was no water shortage in the state.

He however said that this monsoon, the state was putting in a process to conserve water. On an average, the coastal state receives 100 inches of rain every year.
