Sister of Indian dying in Lahore jail seeks Centre’s help

New Delhi, April 15 (IANS) Sister of Kirpal Singh, the Indian who died in a Lahore jail in Pakistan, met union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday here and sought support from the central government for an early repatriation of his body.

"Home Minister met the family members of Kirpal Singh and Sarabjit Singh. He assured them of all possible help from the government," the home minister's office wrote on twitter.

Jagir Kaur, sister of Kirpal Singh, met Rajnath Singh at the home ministry at South Block here. She also met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at his residence on Thursday and had sought a probe into the death of her brother who was jailed in Pakistan 25 years ago on espionage charges.

Kirpal Singh, 54, a resident of Gurdaspur in Punjab, is reported to have died of cardiac arrest in a Lahore jail on Monday. His body is still in the morgue of the Jinnah Hospital, Lahore.

Jagir Kaur has questioned the Pakistani government's version of her brother's death. She was accompanied by Dalbir Kaur, the elder sister of another Indian, Sarabjit Singh, who also died in the same Pakistani jail in 2013.
