Mumbai, April 11 (IANS) Senior Maharashtra cadre IPS officer Meeran Chadha-Borwankar has been appointed the new Director General of the Bureau of Police Research and Development, it was announced on Monday.
An Indian Police Service officer of the 1981 batch, she will hold the post till her retirement in September 2017, according to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, New Delhi.
Earlier, Chadha-Borwankar created history by becoming the first woman police commissioner in Maharashtra. She was the Pune police chief in 2010-12.
She was also the first woman to be the Joint Commissioner of Police, heading the sensitive Crime Branch in its 150-year history.
