New Delhi, April 11 (IANS) Under the ongoing Chhau Mohatsav, organised by the Jharkhand government in Saraekela Kharsawan district, numerous Indian folk dances will be presented on Tuesday.

Artists from Assam, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and West Bengal will be participating in the event.

The dances include Assamese folk dance, Ghumar, Kalbelia, Gotipua dance, Kharsawan Chhau, Lavani, Saraikela Chhau, Singuwa Chhau and Bihu.

Chhau Mahotsav started on April 3 and is one of the most important events of Jharkhand Government.

“The state government is encouraging the dancing skills of Chhau artists. Chhau dance is our cultural heritage and we have to preserve it," said Anil Kumar Singh, director of art and culture, Jharkhand.

"The artists involved in this form of dance should be encouraged in securing significant position at the national level,” he said.

Mr. Singh said that the artists have come from different states to participate in this mahotsav and this proves the craze of Chhau dance.

The artists will be awarded during the closing ceremony on Wednesday.
