Video competition to spread awareness of community radio

New Delhi, April 9 (IANS) In a bid to highlight the importance of community radio services, the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) has announced a special video competition among youth.

This year's topic for the competition is "Community Radio: Addressing Disasters, Saving Lives" and seeks entries on how community radio services can be of use in crisis and disaster management, as well as in saving lives.

The best videos prepared by students on the topic will be awarded at an event organised in May 2016 in New Delhi.

The competition is a joint initiative of CEMCA, UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi. It is open to students in Indian universities, colleges and institutions.

The duration of the video can be up to three minutes and the last date of online submission is April 30. It can be in any language, but entries in regional language must have English subtitles. There are about 13 cash prizes, the statement said.

CEMCA was set up in 1994 by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) to promote the meaningful, relevant and appropriate use of media and technology to serve the educational and training needs of Commonwealth member-states of Asia.

It has been working to promote the use of community radio in learning for sustainable development since 2006.
