Asansol, April 7 (IANS) Targeting the opposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said various issues were being raked up to push the development work ushered in by his regime to the background with some people apprehensive of going to jail because of his fight against graft.
"I know, the more I set things right, some people naturally will have problems. They shout at the top of their voice, because they know their time is up, they may land in jail," Modi said addressing an election meeting in this industrial town - about 200 km from Kolkata - in Burdwan district.
"That is the reason development (ushered in by his government) is not being heard, but other issues are being raked up. The main reason is they smell danger at their doorsteps."
Refering to the four year prison term given to two directors of Jharkhand Ispat Pvt. Ltd convicted of criminal conspiracy and cheating in bagging a coal block, Modi reminded the audience that before the last Lok Sabha election, he had promised not to spare those who have messed around with the country's coal resources.
Modi said more people would face punishment in the coming days.
"If you hear such loud shouts, then you should understand that Modi has taken some steps that will put the traitors in trouble."
