Sweden appoint Andersson as new national team coach

Stockholm, April 7 (IANS) Coach Jan Andersson was on Thursday appointed the new manager of Sweden's football team, replacing Erik Hamren who announced that he would step down after the Euro 2016 tournament.

"The Swedish Football Association confirms that the committee has unanimously backed the proposal to appoint Jan Andersson, currently trainer of club IFK Norrkoping, as the new coach of the national team. He will take over after the Euros in France," the association said in a statement, reports Efe.

Hamren announced in February that Euro 2016 would be his last competition as Sweden's coach.

Andersson is set to take Sweden's helm after Euro 2016 in France this summer.

"I am very happy and content. It's a dream. It's the best job you can have as a football coach," the 53-year-old said during his presentation here.

Sweden has been drawn to face Italy, Ireland and Belgium in a tough Group E at Euro 2016.
