Congress allegations against Jaitley baseless: BJP

New Delhi April 7 (IANS) Terming the Congress allegations based on the 'Panama Papers' leak as "baseless", the BJP on Thursday said that the opposition party should refrain from the "Kejriwal-style politics".

"The Congress allegations levelled against the BJP and Arun (Jaitley) ji are baseless. They (Congress) should refrain from Kejriwal-style politics of making an allegation and (then) running away. If they have proof, they should produce it," Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman Srikant Sharma said here.

"In fact, all black money was siphoned off to foreign havens during the Congress rule in the past and it was the BJP which brought in tough legislation against black money," Sharma added.

The BJP leader said if the Congress was lily-white, why did the then United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre not form a Special Investigation Team in 2012 to probe the black money despite a court order.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh told the media here on Thursday that the Narendra Modi government had ignored investigations by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) that alleged off-shore assets of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman SinghÂ’s son.

Ramesh said the structure, domain, reach and authority of the multi-group agency set up by the Modi government to investigate the matter further was unclear and the government announcement on the issue was inadequate.

"The central government has already formed a committee to probe the 'Panama Papers' case and the culprits would be brought to book," the BJP spokesman said.
