Chandigarh, April 5 (IANS) Doctors and their assistants have been getting a royal Rs.10 and Re.1 for performing post-mortem examination in government hospitals in Haryana. But that is going to change now.
Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij on Tuesday said government doctors and their assistants would be paid Rs.1,000 and Rs.500, respectively, for performing autopsies in hospitals.
"Earlier, they were being given Rs.10 and Re.1 per post-mortem," Vij said.
The decision was taken at a meeting of health and medical education departments here on Tuesday.
Sources in the health department and police said government doctors in the state were reluctant to perform post-mortem examination of dead people owing to the low remuneration for this work.
