Bhubaneswar, April 5 (IANS) As many as 100 model schools in 14 districts of Odisha were inaugurated on Tuesday, with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurating one such English-medium school at Sasan Ambagaon in his home constituency Hinjili.
He announced the inauguration of the remaining 99 schools online. These 100 schools are situated in as many blocks of the state.
"These schools will help students get education at their doorstep. I hope these Adarsha Vidyalayas will help fulfil the hopes and aspirations of students," Patnaik said.
He said the government had decided to open model schools in all 314 blocks of Odisha under the aegis of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya so that all students don't have to move to cities for quality education.
The government has constructed 100 English-medium schools under the scheme in the first phase. The remaining blocks will be covered in the later phase.
The schools will follow the Central Board of Secondary Education curriculum with English as the first language and Odia as the second language.
Initially, these schools will offer admissions to classes VI, VII and VIII. Besides, 50 percent seats will be reserved for girl students. As many as 905 teachers have been recruited for these schools.
The schools' infrastructure and other facilities are in line with those of the Kendriya Vidyalayas, like pupil-teacher ratio and information communication technology use etc.
