Weather to remain wet in Jammu and Kashmir for three days

Jammu/Srinagar, April 1 (IANS) Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir over the next three days, the Meteorological Office said on Friday.

"A western disturbance is arriving here Friday evening, under its influence weather would remain generally cloudy with light to moderate rainfall during the next three days in the state," an official of the weather office told IANS.

The intensity of the expected rainfall would be much less than last week, the official said.

"The minimum temperature was six degrees Celsius in Srinagar on Friday. It was 0.5 in Gulmarg and 1.7 in Pahalgam."

"Leh and Kargil towns of the Ladakh region recorded 2.6 and minus one degree Celsius as the minimum temperatures on Friday respectively," the official said.

"In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded 17.2 Celsius as the minimum temperature. Katra recorded 18.1, Batote 11.8, Banihal 10.2, Bhaderwah 7.6 and Udhampur town 14 as minimum temperatures."

"Western disturbance" is an extra tropical storm system originating in the Mediterranean Sea that causes rainfall and snow in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Prospects of the Rabi crop, which is sown in the winter and harvested in the spring in these regions, depend largely on the western disturbances.
