Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen’s suspension reduced to four matches

Kolkata, March 31 (IANS) The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Thursday decided to reduce Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen’s suspension from eight to four matches after receiving an apology.

His fine of Rs.10 lakh was also reduced to Rs.5 lakh, which has to be deposited within 15 days from the date of communication.

Sen was suspended for his derogatory remarks about the AIFF on March 3.

"In view of the unconditional apology tendered by Mr. Sanjoy Sen both verbally and in form of an affidavit in addition to his undertaking that such incidents will not happen in future, the AIFF Appeals Committee which met at Football House on March 31, 2106, unanimously decided to reduce the penalty of suspension from 8 matches to 4 matches to be served consecutively,” said a statement from the national football governing body.

“At the same time, the amount of fine has been reduced to 5 lakhs instead of 10 lakhs and it is to be deposited within 15 days from the date of communication,” the statement added.

The I-League-winning coach had to sit out during his team's clashes with Mumbai FC and Aizawl FC earlier this month, and will also be sidelined during Mohun Bagan's highly-anticipated Saturday clash against arch-rivals East Bengal in Siliguri.

Mohun Bagan are currently leading the table with 25 points from 12 matches.
