Alappuzha (Kerala), March 30 (IANS) The wife of a CRPF trooper from Kerala who drowned in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday hit out at CRPF officials, accusing them of showing disrespect to her husband's body.
"My husband was treated like a dog. They could have at least used a cloth to cover his body," said Lini, wife of the 33-year-old Anil Achenkunju.
"Would they have done this if the person who died was an officer? Since my husband was only a jawan, he was treated like this," she told the media here.
Lini blamed both Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials and the home ministry for the manner in which the body was brought to Kerala in a mere plastic cover.
Achenkunju, who hailed from Chingoly in this district, drowned in a water tank in Chhattisgarh on March 24. His body was brought here on Saturday in a decomposed state.
Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala told the media in New Delhi that he had taken up the issue with Home Minister Rajnath Singh and said it was "very unfortunate this happened".
"The deceased is from my constituency and I know them. The state government will do its duty as the deceased was the only breadwinner in the family," said Chennithala.
The union home ministry has said that due action would be taken once the inquiry into this incident takes place, he said.
