French police dismantle migrants’ camp in Paris

Paris, March 30 (IANS) French police on Wednesday dismantled a camp in a Paris subway station where hundreds of migrants mostly from Sudan, Eritrea and Afghanistan had been living underneath the elevated train tracks.

Shortly after 6.a.m. (local time), dozens of police officers cordoned off an area spread over hundreds of metres along the Boulevard de la Villette near Stalingrad metro station, where the migrants, mostly young men, have been living for the past several weeks, Efe news agency reported.

The security forces prevented access to the cordoned off area, in which a bus was seen driving migrants to shelters.

Migrants also sheltered near Subway Line 2, the location of a previous settlement cleared earlier this month.
