Coming, virtual reality porn to immerse you in ‘real’ action

New York, March 29 (IANS) While you get ready to experience the new world of gaming and immersive technology via virtual reality (VR) headsets, what about some steamy porn videos that will take the experience to a new hilt.

According to media reports, as Facebook-owned startup Oculus gears up to make its VR headsets public for a new-age movie and gaming experience, it is also considering to have an "open platform" for developers - including porn producers.

The new "Rift" headset from Oculus will have over 30 games available as the first units start shipping this week - with 100 titles expected by the end of this year, nypost.com reported.

Till date, VR porn is viewed on smartphone-powered headsets like Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard.

According to Oculus founder Palmer Luckey, the company "may" consider giving porn producers a chance to be on its platform.

Owing to costly equipment and production costs, making a VR porn film can cost up to $100,000.

While Oculus "Rift", Facebook has reportedly decided to delay the launch of Touch controllers till later in 2016.

"On Touch hardware, we have made significant advances in ergonomics, and we are implementing many changes that make Touch even more comfortable, reliable, and natural," the blog noted.

"We are also outputting larger numbers of pre-production runs, which means we can get a lot more touch hardware in the hands of developers who need it," it added.

Meanwhile, Greenlight VR CEO Clifton Dawson said this delay might benefit consumers, as it gives Oculus extra time to make the touch controllers more comfortable and reliable in recognising interactions.

"The delays also allow Oculus more time for developers to begin testing and creating experiences with them," Dawson was quoted as saying.

Virtual reality is a computer-simulated reality (in a device) that replicates, via photos, an environment that simulates a physical presence in places in the real world or an imagined world, allowing the user to interact in that world.

Virtual reality artificially creates sensory experiences that can include sight, hearing, touch and smell.

Facebook bought Oculus two years ago for $2 billion.

Oculus didn’t respond to requests for comment, the report added.
